Carol, I have to take pictures for you of my Topsie Turvies. The plants have only been in for a little bit, but I think they are doing better than the other ones. I hope they bush out a little though. That would be really nice.

Id love to see those pictures Greeneyes,I only have one spot for a topsy turvey, the house is just too low and I dont have a patio,I understand that the hardest
part of using the truvey is keeping the plants watered ,if it gets hot enough you have to water at least twice a day.Is that true and is the opening in that
bag big enough for rain to get in?

I will take some pictures of them for you, from the top as well. I just have to stand on my deck and look down. I don't know about the watering just yet.
It has rained every day since I have planted them.

Id love to see those pics Greeneyes,Im wild for anything about the garden. Yesterday I had to change the fish filter,I had skimmed the surface of pond scum
just the day before and thought that while I was changing the filter and cleaning it I would lower the hose into the pond to refreash it,I picked up the
skimmer and just below it was a plant I had all but given up on.That new filter sits next to the pond in a dug hole, but the unit itself sits above ground by
about a foot.I planted a huge elephant ears plant figuring that when it grew it would hide that filter.Well I planted it about two months ago, when it failed to
show after all that rain I figured it must have rotted in the ground, too bad I really like this plant. Then yesterday I moved that skimmer and right below it
was the elephant ears plant,it had finally broken thru the ground,if you get a chance and can find one at agways youve got to try this one Greeneyes.once it
breaks ground you can watch it grow,it reaches heights of four feet and more depending on the conditons.Cool plant, very good for the gardening ego.

I will get pictures of the topsies this weekend, once it stops raining. I have tomatoes on all my plants I think. I have switched to a granulated fertilizer
though. The liquid fert is just washing right through because of all of the rain.

My little garden is doing well. I have little green marble tomatoes, and some tiny cucumbers.
My peppers look a little strange. The top leaves are curled, but the lower leaves look fine. |

These are the Topsy Turvey's. It was a bit hard getting pictures of them because everything in the background is so green.
The opening in the top is about the size of the diameter of a regular size lemon. I can water them from the deck above, which is where the picture is taken, or I have a wand that I can water it with from the ground. |

This is a link to the instructions with a couple of pictures. It is a bit of a challenge if you are doing it alone. I was. I balanced the planter between 2 step stools. The plant does get inserted into the bottom first and you add soil from the top. |

Just an update. I have noticed that the Topsy Turvy's are growing better and faster than the in the ground plants. The tomatoes are bigger and there are
more of them. But it's early yet. The others could still be establishing a root system. The Turvy's have a contained root system forcing the outside
growth.

I have about 12 tomatoes per plant already the the Topsy plants. They are green, but still, I was surprised by the numbers. The biggest one is about the size
of a large walnut. My husband seems to think that gravity is working to help the plant. When you plant in the ground, the plant has to work hard to bring the
nutrients up to the leaves and fruit. With the Turvy's, gravity brings it down to where it needs to be.

How interesting! I guess you can control bugs better that way too.
I pruned my neighbors rose bush the other day. I just couldn't stand it anymore. It was getting huge and leggy. I had asked if I could do it, so I did half so it wouldn't be a culture shock to them. They'll see though. In two weeks times, a lot of new growth will come on and it will look a lot better. Once it is coming on strong, I'll do the rest, and they'll have blooms all summer long. |

Roses respond really well to being cut back.
The garden has done really well this past week, now that we have actually had some sun. I think I could actually see the plants grow. |

I went to Agways the other day, yesterday as a matter of fact,I got to talk to the owner and he said hes never heard so many people complaining about there
gardens, all this rain and no sun, thats what I was afraid of.I asked him about that tomato blight and he said that many people are experiencing it,I gulped and
told him how well the garden is doing,he said that gardners have come it to praise all the rain, then they went out one day and the garden looked terrible, what
we need is one week of sun and no rain, btw, todays forecase, rain.

I have really good drainage for the plants so they haven't become water logged at all. **knock on wood** they are doing really well. I have tons of peppers
and tomatoes and there seems to be no fungus at all on the tomatoes. I think we just got lucky Carol.

yuppers me too,the guy at Agways said that a week of strong sunlight will do much to kill the spores of the fungus, but right now,you guessed it ,its pouring
out, sigh.Gonna take pictures of the flower garden this week,I included about twice as many dalhias and its really nice.If we get a decent day Im going to walk
around with the camera and take pics.Oh,btw, that baby rabbit the one that refuses to run away when you walk up to it? well he did I mean he really really did
it,he got into my veggie garden,I sprayed yesterday with that deer spray that also claims to discourage rabbits but he know knows how to get in,Ive got a row
of chamomile plants and thats what he seems to be zeroing in on.

I noticed this morning that I have 2 plants that have flowers that are dying on them from the stem. Only a couple of flowers per plant, so I looked the blight
up and the symptoms are pretty easy to spot.
* A pale green often beginning at leaf tips or edges * Brown spots or lesions on tomato plant stems or leaves * If the weather is wet or humid, white spores may be visible on the undersides of leaves or at the edges of the lesions * On green tomatoes you may see white mold or, according to Ohio State University, "large, firm, brown, leathery-appearing lesions, often concentrated on the sides or upper fruit surfaces" The spores that carry the blight can easily spread on the wind, so it is critical to get rid of any infected plants. DO NOT PUT THEM IN YOUR COMPOST PILE! |

My tomatoes have reached to top of my tomatoe stakes. This could be a problem. The Topsy's I think will be the way to go. Those plants are doing great. My
husband is talking about doing all Topsy's next year. But, I think I need to wait until the end of the growing season to make that decision.

I found another red tomato under all those leaves, the first one was just ok,nothing special,it was more orange than red this one is dark red, this morning
around six I picked the first squash and string beans,my husband could eat garden fresh string beans every meal of the day,hes crazy for them.Me I cant
wait,Ive got the Helman's mayo bought, the Frihoffers Bread salt and pepper are standing by. Then comes that day, ahh, still warm from the sun I cut thru a
red ripe tomato, juices flow over the cutting board,I carefully lift the two inch slice on that whole wheat bread, spread a layer of mayo put on salt and pepper
than take a bite, its really what its all about, nothing beats the first taste of red ripe tomato,I eat this over the sink,if its exceptional I save the seeds,Im
raising a bunch of those yellow tomatos,my husband brought home to packs of them, one turned out to be yellow cherry tomatos, the other was the saddest plants Id
ever seen, but I planted them the same as I did the expensive ones,a big handful of Gardens Alive and GreenSand, they took off,now there doing just fine put
theres nothing to pick as yet,ok gotta get going, its hot and sunny and Ive still got work to do outdoors.
